Grant Alonzo Black, 72, died Thursday of a heart ailment.

Death Claims Long-Time Local Resident. Grant Alonzo Black, 82, of 343 North Second West, died Thursday of a heart ailment while visiting in Washington, D.C. He was born November 2, 1886, in Alpine, Arizona, a son of William Grant and Lucretia Jane Maxwell Black. He married Ruth Rees on August 23, 1916, in the Salt Lake LDS temple They had since resided in Brigham City. Ha had worked as a boiler engineer at Hill Air Force Base before retiring. He served a mission for the LDS church and was a High Priest in the Seventh ward. Surviving are his widow, two sons and two daughters, Harold R. Black, College, Alaska; Morris Black, Long Beach, California; Mrs. Kenneth (Bernice) Clement, Tucson, Arizona; Mrs. Laird (Donna) Stringham, Brigham City; 11 grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Eva Miller, Hyrum; Mrs. Aurelia Gale, Salt Lake City. Funeral services were conducted Monday in the Seventh ward chapel with Bishop Dean Compton officiating. Burial was in Brigham City cemetery. Prayer at the home was offered by Parley Rees with opening prayer at the chapel by Fred Miller. During the services, two vocal numbers were given by the male quartet, composed of Lee R. Andersen, DeLaun Sackett, Earl and Eugene Wright. Bishop Dean Compton spoke as did Vernal Willie. Mrs. Erma Hansen and Mrs. Juanita Steffen sang duet, followed by remarks by Lewis S. Wight. Following closing musical number by the quartet. Lorenzo Norr offered the benediction. The grave was dedicated at the Brigham City cemetery by James Nelson, with pall bearer duties performed by Bill Walker, Fullmer Allred, Harry Jackson, Adolph Bott, George Hacking and Ken Cuthbert.
