English: The Mraconia Monastery is located in Duhova commune, Mehedinti county, at a distance of 15 kilometers west from the city of Orsova. More concretely, it is located on the left bank of the Danube, which forms in that place, the most beautiful gorge on its entire stretch, a stretch between Orsova and Moldova Noua. The monastery was built on the site of a former point of observation and directing of vessels on the Danube, because due to the architecture of the relief, due to the narrowness from place to place of the gorge, the simultaneous passage of two vessels could not take place. These maximum narrowings and widenings of the river have received the name "Danube cauldrons", according to many, the place being the most beautiful location in the country.
