Foundation Conservation Carpathia
modificareIn the heart of the Carpathians, Foundation Conservation Carpathia is emerging as a guardian of nature, embodying a holistic approach to conservation based on five key pillars: conservation, restoration, wildlife, community outreach and conservation enterprise.
Protecting forests and alpine pastures:
modificareCovering an extensive area of 27,000 hectares, Foundation Conservation Carpathia has strategically saved forests and meadows, with nearly 1,000 hectares designated as virgin forest.
This represents a commitment to restore and protect these vital ecosystems.
Restoring degraded habitats:
modificareThe Foundation's efforts extend beyond acquisition to include the establishment of tree nurseries, the impressive replanting of 4.1 million trees and the removal of over 50km of tractor tracks.
These ambitious initiatives are making a significant contribution to the restoration of degraded habitats, promoting biodiversity and ecological balance.
Wildlife conservation and conflict mitigation:
modificareFoundation Conservation Carpathia is actively involved in leasing hunting concessions, preventing poaching and implementing strategic wildlife conservation measures.
In particular, the reintroduction of bison and beavers into their natural habitats is a testament to its commitment in the Făgăraș Mountains. Pioneering Romania's first modern wildlife monitoring system, using DNA samples and AI tools for conflict resolution, demonstrates their commitment to cutting-edge conservation practices.
A new economy - nature positive businesses
With a forward-thinking approach, Foundation Conservation Carpathia supports businesses that are in harmony with nature. Their initiatives empower local communities through ecotourism, support farmers and promote sustainable building practices.
By promoting a Nature Positive Business model, Foundation Conservation Carpathia actively contributes to the sustainable development of the region of the Făgăraș Mountains.
Supporting local communities
modificareWorking hand in hand with 28 surrounding communities, the Foundation initiates social programmes, forges strategic partnerships, supports local sports and organises national events such as Făgăraș Fest.
These collaborative efforts demonstrate a commitment to improving the well-being of local communities and fostering a sense of shared responsibility for conservation.
Foundation Conservation Carpathia recognises the power of communication in support of its mission
modificareFoundation Conservation Carpathia has become an authority on conservation in Romania, aiming to raise awareness of the need to preserve nature, restore ecosystems and create a national park in the Fagaras Mountains. The organisation develops campaigns together with local communities, Trees with Stories, various campaigns to promote Romania's natural values[2], many education projects[ [3][4][5] [6]].
Building national park infrastructure
modificareWith a vision for the future, Foundation Conservation Carpathia focuses on developing essential infrastructure for the future Făgăraș Mountains national park. This includes visitor centres, wildlife hides, trails and administrative buildings to ensure the long-term viability and success of the Făgăraș Mountains National Park.
