Week of Women in Science and Education

The week starting on 2 May is a special thematic Week of Women in Science and Education, which promotes the creation of articles about notable women from the CEE region, who contributed strongly to science and education in the region. CEE Spring 2016 participants who will add the most words to articles related to this topic will win interesting prizes. The participants will be ranked by highest number of words written, whereby only newly created articles with at least 300 words will be taken into consideration. You can find the rules here. Prizes

Hello! The international organisers need information about

• how much of the up to 400 Euro for your community you are willing to pay for prizes,
• what the prizes will be,
• how the prizes will be bought, and
• how you will be reimbursed, if needed.

Please abide by the Rules on international level.

The easiest way to buy the prizes and have no reimbursement process is to give one of those of us taking care of the prizes (User:Лорд Бъмбъри, User:Magalia, User:Ата) a link to a web shop. That way we will be able to purchase the prizes and either have them delivered to the winners, to the local organiser, or left in the store to be picked up by someone.

The second easiest way to buy the prizes is that the local organiser buys them with their own money, scans the invoice and sends it to us together with their bank account number. They will get their reimbursement in two weeks after the submission of the receipt.

In this case there are two possibilities: the better one would be if the invoice for the goods is issued to Wikimedia Polska:

If this is not possible we would need any proof of purchase and confirmation from recipient that she or he received the goods.

Prizes buying process

Hi!

I’m writing to you on behalf of Wikimedia Poland to inform you about the reimbursement process regarding CEE Spring 2016.

According to the international rules:

• step 1 Local organizers buy the prizes themselves with their own money and acquire an invoice issued to Wikimedia Polska (Stowarzyszenie Wikimedia Polska ul. Tuwima 95, pok. 15 90-031 Łódź Polska)
• step 2 local organizers send scan of the invoice to one of the international organizers (natalia.szafran@wikimedia.pl or nikola.kalchev@gmail.com) along with a protocol of the process of selection of winners and with a calculation of overall costs. The protocol must include actual names of the winners (the names will not be made public, they will be kept only in documents of Wikimedia Polska). The e-mail should also include data needed to make a bank transfer (bank account number and name of the account owner)
• step 3 Wikimedia Poland will reimburse the money within two weeks after receiving all the documents needed

This way of buying the prizes is strongly advised. In case it is impossible the prizes can be bought by Wikimedia Polska from the suggested online shop. In this case you need to send to one of the international organizers (natalia.szafran@wikimedia.pl or nikola.kalchev@gmail.com) an email with links to the prizes in an online shop, a protocol of the proces of selection of winners (containing their actual names and usernames). After the purchase is done Wikimedia Polska needs to get an email containing some kind of proof that the prizes have reached the winners (postage waybill scan for instance or a scan of a declartion that the prize has been handed over, the declaration must be signed by the winner).

Please keep in mind that whenever possible local coordinators should buy the prizes themselves. Wikimedia Polska will buy them only in those cases when it is absolutely necessary. All documents must be sent to Wikimedia Poland by the end of June.

Concluzii și lecții în urma concursului

Strainu

CEE Spring a fost un concurs neobișnuit de lung, unul dintre participanți a spus chiar că și-a pierdut interesul pe la mijloc. Poate pe viitor ar trebui limitat la 1 lună, cu câte o zi dedicată fiecărei țări. Participarea din partea comunității a fost conform așteptărilor, iar în exterior am avut câțiva participanți noi, ceea ce e surprinzător având în vedere completa lipsă de promovare, cel puțin în România.

Pe partea de articole despre România/RM, a fost o lipsă majoră și neașteptată (pentru mine) de implicare din partea comunității ceea ce a dus la o lipsă de interes pentru articolele despre România - practic singurul care a făcut propuneri în afară de mine și Giku a fost Asybaris. Îmi asum că alegerile făcute de mine n-au fost cele mai atrăgătoare, dar cred că în lipsa competiției nici nu ai de unde alege. Pe de altă parte, trebuie să vedem dacă ne ajută multe articole atrăgătoare, dar nu foarte reprezentative, sau vrem mai puține articole în timpul concursului, dar pe subiecte pe care le considerăm importante. De asemenea, a se nota că au fost destule articole scrise și din afara listelor.

Colaborarea cu partenerii externi a fost corespunzătoare spre bună. Rugămintea lor a fost să venim cu aceste propuneri mai din timp, pentru a avea timp să obțină aprobări pentru premii mai substanțiale. Organizarea pe ultima sută nu e ceva neobișnuit, fiind un rezultat al nivelului scăzut de implicare în proiecte extra-wiki.

Folosirea WMPL ca sursă de premiere ridică tot felul de probleme organizatorice. Există limitări asupra premiilor posibile, e o birocrație sufocantă, cu tot felul de formulare justificative și alte chestii mai mult sau mai puțin inutile din punctul meu de vedere. Ziceam că a fost destul de obositor, dar efortul nu e mai mare decât să scrii articole bune, ceea ce unii din noi fac în fiecare zi.

Da, am putut fi cu mult mai uniți ca o comunitate la elaborarea listelor de articole, dar în ultimă instanță părerea mea e că nu calitatea acestor liste a determinat calitatea/cantitatea articolelor scrise despre România și Moldova. Interesul participanților e o chestie care poate fi influențată doar în mică măsură de listele propuse per țară. Despre Moldova s'a scris mai mult decât despre România nu din cauza listei, dar pentru că un oarecare Anatolii din Belarus a tradus masiv articole din rusă, așa cum face el de obicei.

Nu cred că ar fi corect să am reproșuri privind numărul de participanți. Concursul era destinat cu precădere utilizatorilor cu ceva experiență, iar noi la rowiki suntem puțini. Așa că cei 3-4 utilizatori care au avut o participare constantă e ceva ce m'am așteptat de la Wikipedia. De asemenea, rezultatele de la promovarea pe sitenotice și Facebook mi se par așteptate.

Durata nu aș scurta'o... pentru că timp mai scurt înseamnă mai puțin răgaz pentru scris. Nu am simțit o plictiseală din partea participanților, în ciuda feedback-ului care a sugerat asta. Wikipediile mai mari nu au avut această problemă, iar dacă ei nu vor decide scurtarea duratei, improbabil că o vom face noi.

Probabil pentru următoarele ediții vom avea nevoie de o implicare mai vizibilă a roboților... Evaluarea manuală a articolelor a fost o procedură foarte obositoare. Ar fi binevenită intervenția roboților la evaluarea primară a lungimii și, în mod ideal, la detectarea copyvio-ului.

Am avut parte de asistență foarte bună din partea organizatorilor internaționali, ceea ce a ajutat foarte mult. Ne'am străduit să nu ne complicăm și să reducem regulile la minimum, ceea ce a ajutat și mai mult. Apropo de reguli — așa simple cum sunt, mi se par un text prea lung pentru a fi digerate de cineva interesat, mai ales de un nou-venit.

De premii nu mă pronunț până nu le vedem livrate...

Toate astea fiind spuse, probabil e o idee bună să păstrăm acest format și pentru edițiile viitoare (cu excepția unor schimbări importante la nivel internațional). Vom încerca să rescriem regulile într-un text mai scurt și să începem la timp. Mulțumiri enorme participanților care au investit timp și efort în cele 400 de articole scrise. În ce privește cantitatea, suntem pe locul 9 din 30 Wikipedii participante. Un rezultat de laudă pentru 4 participanți.

CEE Spring 2016 Survey

Hi, dear CEE Spring 2016 organisers! I am sorry for writing in English again.

The international organisers of the contest ask all the participants to complete the survey about the contest. It is very short. It gives us a bit of statistics and helps make the next contest better.
