Costul invaziei modificare

Four Years of War in Iraq: the Costs March 19, 2007 Bob Deans — The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

WASHINGTON --- From the outset, when the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq began in March 2003, President Bush cautioned that the conflict "could be longer and more difficult than some predict." As the fourth anniversary of the war nears Tuesday, the costs:

AMERICAN CASUALTIES

As of Sunday, at least 3,217 U.S. troops have died in Iraq, according to an Associated Press count. An additional 13,357 were wounded and returned to duty, while 10,685 suffered more serious wounds. About one in five of the wounded troops suffered serious wounds such as loss of a limb or an eye, massive burns, spinal or head damage or other debilitating injuries.

IRAQI CASUALTIES There are no official numbers for Iraqis killed, but London-based Iraq Body Count records civilian deaths corroborated by at least two independent news reports. The group estimates between 59,287 and 65,121 Iraqi civilians have been killed --- largely in sectarian and insurgent conflicts. (Lancet says more of 600.000 iraqi dead!!!!!!) TAXPAYER COSTS Four years of fighting have cost U.S. taxpayers $351 billion. President Bush has requested an additional $68 billion to continue operations through Oct. 1 of this year. He also has asked for $113 billion for fiscal 2008, which begins Oct. 1 --- for a total of $532 billion. Future medical care for veterans has not been factored in.

EQUIPMENT COSTS Replacing tanks and other vehicles, aircraft, weapons and other equipment worn out, destroyed, lost or turned over to Iraqi units will cost taxpayers an estimated $60 billion over the next five years.

MENTAL HEALTH COSTS The number of veterans seeking Veterans Affairs mental health assistance is expected to rise from 155,000 last year to 209,000 this year and 263,000 in 2008. The VA is requesting $2.96 billion for mental health spending in fiscal 2008 --- up $545 million, or 23 percent, from fiscal 2006. The VA says nearly 40,000 Iraq veterans have symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, and the number of PTSD cases is certain to rise, because the condition often manifests itself years after a soldier returns from combat.

Nu prea respectă NPOV-ul acest edit. Prea se înclină spre anti-război: "(Lancet says more of 600.000 iraqi dead!!!!!!)" fiind un exemplu. Probabil trebuie revizuit un pic edit-ul. Bavanai 28 iunie 2007 02:01 (EEST)Răspunde

Costul UMAN al invaziei modificare

Four years after the illegal US-UK-Australian invasion of Iraq, how many Iraqis have died post-invasion?

Post-invasion Occupied Iraqi excess deaths (avoidable deaths, deaths that did not have to happen) now total ONE MILLION as of March 2007, after 4 years of war and as estimated from data from the top US medical epidemiology group in the World’s top Public Health School (the Nobel Laureate-containing Bloomberg School of Public Health) at the top US Johns Hopkins University, published peer-reviewed in the top UK medical journal The Lancet and endorsed by 27 top Australian medical experts. 1-3

Consonant with post-invasion excess deaths in the Occupied Iraqi and Afghan Territories totalling 1.0 million and 2.4 million, respectively, the post-invasion under-5 year old infant deaths total 0.5 million and 1.9 million, respectively; the number of refugees total 3.8 million and 3.8 million, respectively; and, according to WHO, the annual per capita medical expenditures permitted by the Occupiers are $64 and $23, respectively, as compared to $2,874 (Australia), $2,389 (UK) and $5,7628071458ba6b929b0a22a41a9521ad8 (US). 596236c0628071458ba6b929b0a22a41a9521ad8b936704ad651a4c4c04207

The accrual cost (i.e. the long-term committed cost) of the Bush Iraq and Afghan Wars is now $2.5 TRILLION, this estimate coming from 2001 Economics Nobel Laureate and former Chief Economist of the World Bank US Professor Stiglitz (Columbia) and Professor Linda Bilmes (Harvard), who also estimate a cost of $6.5 million for each US soldier killed. Assuming the “all men are created equal” this leads to a Reparations Bill of $ 6.5 million x 3.4 million = $22 trillion. ed0c523929cd129f0f03e9ec5fd5e19d

These horrendous outcomes indicate gross violation by the US Alliance of the Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War (notably Articles 38, 55 and 56), UN Genocide Convention (specifically Article 2) as well as of the UN Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Rights of the Child Convention. Peace is the only way but silence kills and silence is complicity. We are inescapably obliged to inform everyone about horrendous abuses of humanity. e12e5b182b5a75f1932a71264ae46784

Concluzii modificare

  • The truth is that The U.S. and Britain have triggered an episode more deadly than the Rwandan genocide. If we were to factor in the brutal and genocidal sanctions regime imposed on Iraq prior to the invasion in 2003, and if we were to also factor in the 2 million Iraqi refugees that have been created, we see that out of a population of 26 million, 4 million have been killed or displaced.[1]
  • Over 7.5% dead, another 7.5% driven out, the rest left to suffer the slow painful decline of their country into a violent and fiercely divided hell hole that our governments claim they have liberated.[2]

Depleted Uranium: Commission Receives Scientific Experts' Opinion

http://www.nato.int/du/docu/d010307b.htm

The European Commission today received the opinion of the group of independent scientific experts, established according to Article 31 of the Euratom Treaty, on the possible radiological health effects of depleted uranium. On the basis of information available to date, the experts have concluded that radiological exposure to depleted uranium could not result in a detectable effect on human health. Although the possibility of a combined effect of exposure to toxic and carcinogenic chemicals and to radiation could not be excluded the experts concluded that there was no evidence to support this hypothesis.

The truth is that The U.S. and Britain have triggered an episode more deadly than the Rwandan genocide. If we were to factor in the brutal and genocidal sanctions regime imposed on Iraq prior to the invasion in 2003, and if we were to also factor in the 2 million Iraqi refugees that have been created, we see that out of a population of 26 million, 4 million have been killed or displaced.[3]

Rumsfeld flees France fearing arrest modificare

Sat, 10/27/2007 - 08:45

Former US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld fled France today fearing arrest over charges of "ordering and authorizing" torture of detainees at both the American-run Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq and the US military's detainment facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, unconfirmed reports coming from Paris suggest.

US embassy officials whisked Rumsfeld away yesterday from a breakfast meeting in Paris organized by the Foreign Policy magazine after human rights groups filed a criminal complaint against the man who spearheaded President George W. Bush's "war on terror" for six years.

Under international law, authorities in France are obliged to open an investigation when a complaint is made while the alleged torturer is on French soil.

According to activists in France, who greeted Rumsfeld shouting "murderer" and "war criminal" at the breakfast meeting venue, US embassy officials remained tight-lipped about the former defense secretary's whereabouts citing "security reasons".

Anti-torture protesters in France believe that the defense secretary fled over the open border to Germany, where a war crimes case against Rumsfeld was dismissed by a federal court. But activist point out that under the Schengen agreement that ended border checkpoints across a large part of the European Union, French law enforcement agents are allowed to cross the border into Germany in pursuit of a fleeing fugitive.

"Rumsfeld must be feeling how Saddam Hussein felt when US forces were hunting him down," activist Tanguy Richard said. "He may never end up being hanged like his old friend, but he must learn that in the civilized world, war crime doesn't pay."

International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) along with the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR), the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR), and the French League for Human Rights (LDH) filed the complaint on Thursday after learning that Rumsfeld was scheduled to visit Paris
